Day 2 - Copenhagen
We boarded our short hop flight surrounded by thick fog. All flights would be cancelled if it was like this at home, however there were no delays and off we went. We were served a light breakfast (again) and had a very short 1.5 hop across to Copenhagen.
As we were coming into land Sean managed to capture a great photo of the Oresund Bridge - an amazing construction of half bridge and half tunnel. We will come over this bridge in a couple of weeks when we return to Copenhagen.
Landed safely, heavy rain forecast for the morning... and it was pouring. Taxi to the hotel, we were there by 9am and were luckily offered a room before the normal check-in time of 3pm which meant we could shower and change after 31 hours of travel.
We headed out in the rain, it was not cold so just a short sleeve t-shirt under the rain jacket. Caught the Metro to Copenhagen Centre and then just walked around the city - and what a beautiful city it is. No real high rise, all buildings are only 5-7 storeys high and the architecture is wonderful. There is a real vibrancy around this city.
We found a pub called the Southern Cross which was showing the Brisbane Lions v. Geelong game live so we stopped there for a beer. Watched the first half (sadly the Lions lost) and then kept wandering around until we found a lunch venue. By the time we finished the rain had gone and the sun was out - we decided the walk to Nyhavn. The 5th September is the day in Denmark that they celebrate all those who have served their country, there were armed forces out walking everywhere, proudly displaying their medals etc..
Today was the first qualifier for the FIFA World Cup between Denmark and Scotland, so there were men in kilts everywhere - great atmosphere.
We were walking along the cobblestones when I looked down at the map on my phone instead of the ground and I missed a small kerb - next minute I was flat on my face on the cobble stones. A lovely Police lady ran over to help and they got me up. I was quite shocked so we found a chair and I started to inspect the damage!! The worst bit was that I had put my teeth through the skin under my lip. I had also slightly chipped 2 teeth. I could feel both kees swelling up and my right wrist. After a while, and 2 panadol, we kept going towards Nyhavn.
It wasn't until I stopped to use the bathroom that I looked inside my mouth and realised there was a big hole where the gum meets the inside of the lip. The outside was still bleeding too. Decided I should get some medial attention so we called an Uber (who got stuck in the traffic following on from the Armed Forces event) and headed off to the University Hospital.
The Orthopedic Doctor saw me first, as I could still walk and move all my limbs he decided that they were just bruised - VERY lucky that I didn't break my wrists when I fell with my arms out in front. They then took photos of the inside of my mouth and sent them to the Oral Maxillary surgeon for advise. She was still in the Hospital at 6pm so she came down, put in multiple layers of stitches to put me back together and also 2 stitches on the inside of my lip where my teeth had come through. We were all done by 8:30pm - don't know how much it all costed as they deal directly with our Insurer??
Back in the hotel by 9pm, a hot shower, some more panadol and off to bed counting my lucky stars ⭐
